What’s the deal with the Money Bond issue? Well, the video below, produced by the Illinois Coalition to End Money Bond, provides a quick tutorial on what it is, and why it should eliminated as a tool in our justice system.
At the end of the day, if you are not a threat to the safety of the community, you should not be held in court pending your case being heard. You are innocent until proven guilty! And, if you are a threat to the community, you shouldn’t be granted bond anyway.
The efforts of this coalition have contributed to a drop in the Cook County Jail population, from over 10,000 to less than 6,000, and we aren’t done yet. We hope to convince the Supreme Court Commission on Money Bond to hold a public hearing this summer. BE READY!
